Editha was born September 30, 1909, in Schuyler, to John A. and Julia Marie (Holub) Prokes. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1928 and then attended Peru State Teachers College where she earned her State Teachers Certificate. She taught school in Richland, NE prior to her marriage to Lumir F. Otradovsky on June 12, 1934 in Schuyler. Editha was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years and held many offices, including Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, First Presbyterian Church of Schuyler, PEO and was past president of both the Schuyler Civic Club and the Civic Club's Literature Club. She had been active in promoting the Schuyler Historical Museum and was a member of the Schuyler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as a "Gray Lady" for many years at the hospital. Editha was also a member of the American Federation of Women's Clubs and served as Third District Treasure of that organization. Editha was a Brownie Scout leader, a 4-H leader, a member of an extension club and a book club. In addition to being active in the Schuyler Community she loved music, traveling, playing bridge, dancing and square dancing. Editha died October 24th at the Central City Care Center in Central City, NE. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Editha is survived by one son, Fred (Gloria) Otradovsky of Grand Island; one daughter, Julann (Ken) Peterson of Plano, TX; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lumir F. (December 21, 1984) and one sister, Claudia L. (Prokes) Vavra Herbst. Family suggest memorial to the Schuyler Historical Museum, the Colfax County Senior Center or the First Presbyterian Church. Coffee and fellowship will take place in the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
